Compare with another region

With over 160 different ethnic groups and 300,000 people – including the largest Polynesian population in the world – Manukau reflects cultural diversity more than anywhere else in New Zealand.

The region includes Auckland International Airport, and has extensive distribution services including excellent transport access as well as freight and transport company infrastructure. This means the city provides significant advantages for those in the distribution industry.

Wholesale and retail transport and storage activities employ almost a third of the region’s workers. In a practical, physical and human sense, Manukau is the true gateway to New Zealand.

The relatively warm Auckland climate and good access to harbours are both drawcards to the Polynesian population.

Manukau has the fifth lowest number of people over 65, but the second highest number of people under 15 in the country.

Rainfall of 1240 mm a year and 2060 sunshine hours is average. Temperatures as with the other Auckland areas range from from 31°C in summer to just under 0°C overnight in Winter.

The government also provides support for newcomers to create their own local networks.
To find out more, visit the Auckland Newcomers Network.

The Newcomers Network is supported by Settling In, an initiative of Family and Community Services (Ministry of Social Development).
