ambulanceIn an emergency dial 111 to connect you to the police, ambulance and fire service. If the matter is not an emergency, call the nearest police station. You’ll find them in the front of your White Pages phone book in the Government section.

You can report a traffic incident by calling *555 from your mobile phone.

Other emergencies

Civil Defence is the organisation that coordinates help and rescue services if there’s an emergency such as flooding, earthquakes, or storm damage.

New Zealand is prone to earthquakes so it is advisable to take a few simple precautions. For information on how to prepare for earthquakes visit  www.getthru.govt.nz
