Accident Compensation Scheme

ACCIf you’re a New Zealand resident or citizen and you injure yourself at work, at home, or doing an activity, our national accident compensation scheme, ACC, helps pay for your hospital care, visits to the doctor and physiotherapy or other types of specialist treatment.

If the injury is serious, and you qualify, ACC can even make payments towards your lost wages.

How it works

ACC is paid for in a number of ways: one of them is a levy on your wages if you’re an employee and your business if you’re an owner.

The scheme is classified as no-fault, and you cannot generally sue anyone for compensatory damages if you are injured in New Zealand.

ACC have translation services available in 39 languages, and have information brochures available in Chinese, Korean, Tongan, Cook Island Maori, Samoan, Maori and Hindi.
