Advertising and broadcast standards

broadcast standardsAll broadcasters and other media channels in New Zealand have standards which they are expected to maintain, with regard to areas such as the use of language, images, the facts, misleading claims, pricing and slander.

Outlines of the standards and guides on how to complain are available from the relevant organisations (see below).

Not all issues are governed by law.  In the first instance complaints about advertising and broadcasting standards are reviewed by boards maintained by the relevant industries, however judgements made are binding on the participants, and if people are not satisfied further opportunities to pursue matters may be found.
